There was one gaping difference between Miami’s MAC Championship season in 2010 and their disappointing 2011 season: the offensive line. Since then, Miami coaches have placed an emphasis on recruiting quality linemen. One of their top targets now is Normal, IL Offensive Lineman Randy Heideman. With a few recent offers, what is the three star tackle thinking?
“I really want to commit in the next month or so,”
Randy Heideman
, a 6’6 285 lb. offensive tackle told RedHawkInsider. “Right now, I am not ready to name any favorites. I really need to start narrowing it down,” he said. “
Miami
(OH),
Indiana
and
Arizona
are all great options, but I’m not closing the door on anyone,” Heideman added.
In the short term, Heideman’s summer focus has been on his Normal High School squad. His senior season got off to a great start as his team rushed for 274 yards and a 28-12 victory behind his strong performance on Friday night. “I worked really hard this summer at becoming a better all-around athlete. We focused a lot on weights, agility and speed,” the three sport varsity letter winner told RedHawk Insider.
But his summer wasn’t only spent in the weight room. “I visited Miami and it was awesome. My mom and dad came with me and we loved the campus. I care a lot about academics and Miami’s business school had a great feel,” Heideman said. While he may make another few visits before his commitment, the three star lineman added, “Overall, Miami has good people and is really a great place. It is special.”
While RedHawk fans await word from Heideman, he prepares for a rivalry game against Bloomington (IL) High School on August 31st. After that, he’ll start narrowing the list.
