Miami Basketball Recruiting Notebook

Final exams are over at Miami University, and the grade isn’t looking too good for the RedHawks’ spring basketball recruiting. Numerous prospects have either decided to go elsewhere or different schools over the last several weeks. RedHawk Insider Notebook highlights those happenings.

Kellogg to Providence
Alex Kellogg, once considered an insurance policy for the RedHawks, committed to Providence College two weekends ago. Kellogg, son of CBS basketball analyst Clark Kellogg, got tired of waiting on the RedHawks pursuing other players, despite once having Miami as his favorite. Instead, after a visit to Providence that went exceptionally well, he went home for a week and ultimately decided to head to the big east.

Eberhardt to St. Louis
Barry Eberhardt finally made his long awaited decision between Miami and St. Louis, and the Detroit native is on his way to the state of Missouri. Although, Eberhardt had a very positive visit to Miami the weekend of April 20th, he decided to wait on St. Louis, and their hiring of a new coach. In the end, the choice for St. Louis was former Utah coach Rick Majerus, and the choice for Eberhardt was St. Louis.

Hines Ineligible
Miami thought they had finally found their man in Alabama power forward Chris Hines, however this time it wasn’t another school, but a test, that prevented Miami from landing their man. After a great visit to campus, and a game of pickup ball with the team, it was assumed Hines would be committing to the Miami coaches on the spot. However, Hines’s ACT scores were not up to admission standards, and for the time being will prevent him from being a RedHawk in the fall. There is a chance things could change if Hines is able to take the test again over the summer.
