As a result of his play in Cincinnati, he earned a scholarship offer to Miami University.

2010 PF Chip Rank (6’7”, 215) from Cedarburg, Wisconsin has drawn the attention of many schools this spring and summer playing AAU ball for the Wisconsin Swing. He helped his club to the a pool championship and a spot in the platinum bracket at Adidas Take 5 Classic in Cincinnati, Ohio earlier this week. Currently the Swing is competing in the Kentucky Hoopfest and later in the month will travel to tournaments in Milwaukee and Las Vegas and play in front of coaches from across the country. He has been with the swing for 5 years now.

Rank also is a two-sport star that plays quarterback for Cedarburg High School. Cross training in both sports has left him strong. He currently bench presses 265 pounds and squats 270.

As for his game, Rank described himself as follows:

“I am hustler guy. I rebound a lot. I try to get people open. Joe Krabbenhoft from Wisconsin, I am like him.”

Rank gave the following lists of schools that are recruiting him: UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, William and Mary, Miami-OH, Loyola (Chi), Northwestern, and Creighton. All except Northwestern and Creighton have offered him scholarships. Rank has visited all of the schools that have offered him.

As for Miami, he said of the visit that occurred Sunday, July 5 (day before the Take 5 Classic), “Miami was good. I could not really talk to the coaches because it was against the (NCAA) rules (for that recruiting period). So I just went with my family and just drove around. It was a pretty campus.”

Rank also had this to say about Miami:

“Great school. Good academics. They have some good coaches. I like their assistant coaches. I talked to their head coach (Charlie Coles) and thought he was a really cool guy.”

Like most kids from Wisconsin, Rank loves the legendary NFL franchise that plays in Lambeau Field. Rank said, “I like football. I am a Green Bay Packer fan, so I like the Packers.”

Like current RedHawk basketball player and sophomore-to-be Kramer Soderberg, Rank admits to having a cheesehead. Rank explained, “It’s sweet. Pretty much everyone in Wisconsin is a Packers fan.”

Jokingly, Rank had a message to Brett Farve: “He should have retired after he left Green Bay. He is making his legacy bad.”

RedHawk Insider will continue to follow Chip Rank.
